24bit/192khz audio DAC in DVD players...why?
I was recently perusing a Pioneer catalog that boasts an audio DAC (24bit/192khz). My question is why is this necessary when a separate receiver does the digital to analog conversion? Is this only for SACD or DVD-A players (since I think SACD spits out the audio for each of the 5 channels via an analog RCA connection) or do non-DVD-A or SACD players have them as well?
I guess what I am asking is why do you need a high end DAC when you have a regular non-DVD-A/SACD DVD player?

That's probably only for SACD or DVD-A. You certainly don't need an audio DAC for passing DD or DTS to a receiver and if you're passing standard DVD audio through the analog outs only a 48KHz (or maybe 96KHz), 24-bit DAC is required
SACD and DVD-A need to be decoded in the player and sent out in analog form to the receiver due to copying concerns.
