Looking for sub $60 player
Ok, I'm looking for a really inexpensive player for my bedroom. I hardly ever use the one I have in there now, but it's been giving me lots of issues lately....mostly with the eject button.
Anyways, BB has the magnovox MDV455 for $50 this week. This player any good? Can you all recommend another player that's pretty good?
Please don't give answers like "spend more money, blah blah blah".
TIA

OK I won't tell you to spend more money, blah, blah, blah. But if you're only willing to go inexpensive why ask if the player is any good. These cheap players all need to cut corners somewhere to make them cheaply so none of them are very good PQ wise and many don't last long due to poor build quality. They're basically disposable and for people who don't care if they're any good.

Best Buy has had the Cyberhome 320 on sale for a while now for $29.99 after rebate ($39.99 normally). And it's easily hackable to be made region free (just hit a few keys on the remote)!

Yeah, I have 2 of the Cyberhome 300s and they have been fine.
I think you want the ones manufactured in February and labeled as 300/I.

To the poster above: you're talking about the same magnovox that is mentioned in the first post?
As for that 30 dollar one...i've heard some pretty bad stuff off amazon's review page, but i guess i could get a 3yr service plan with it in case anything was to go wrong. i'm guessing the service plan would be like 10-15 bucks or so.

There is a good, and very small, Audiovox at BB for $29 ($39-$10). Also, there are many APEX models that can be hacked for region-free and all are cheap. Also, lots of APEX boards for help if you need it.

The Cyberhome is good for some people's needs, like Region free for a bargain basement price. Depends what you want. If Zodo is looking for a bedroom DVD player, the Magnavox will work fine.
Seems there's a lot of threads about the quality of "cheap" players lately. One can sum ALL of them up by saying they're all going to do the same basic operation--play DVD's. Whether they last a long time and are of good quality, that's a different story. Oh, and like Chipmac said, I won't tell you to spend more money, blah, blah, blah, either.

Can any of these do solid PAL->NTSC conversions on region 0 titles? I'm willing to go all the way up to $125 if you tell me a Toshiba or something will get the primary job done and be better across the board. All I know is that none of my half-dozen panasonics will touch 'em.

I picked up a Koss player at Sears for $30 when it was on sale. I even bought the 2year warranty for a whoping $4.85. I made it region free and it did very good PAL->NTSC transcoding on the two PAL titles I tried on it.
