Known DVE problems?

I'm getting ready to calibrate my audio and video with DVE, but I thought I remember reading that there is an issue with the LFE channel. Is this true and/or are there any other known problems?

Dunno about the LFE but the biggest problem I'm aware of with DVE is the *horrible* menu system, which makes it near-impossible to get to what you want to conveniently. This defect is a carryover from the original VE.

Like a fool, I bought DVE when it came out. Wisely, I gave it away to a friend and am still using AVIA. Far superior layout, and the dynamic test patterns are much easier to calibrate than DVE's static ones.

Thanks for the response. I sold my (unopened) AVIA and bought DVE when it came out as I wanted the 7.1 audio setup as I plan on getting a new receiver shortly (probably the Denon 3805). I've heard others complain about the menus as well which tells me there must be some others out there that have used DVE and can hopefully comment on the LFE and/or any other known issues. I probably should have kept AVIA for the video and used DVE for the audio.

I don't remember specifics, but I recall hearing that the way DVE and Avia measure LFE is different. It isn't necessarily that one is better than the other, just that you need to follow the instructions more carefully.

As far as 6.1 and 7.1 test tones go, the Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-Up has those tones as well. It's from the same people who make Avia and has an easy menu layout structure, but is less comprehensive when it comes to the really intensive video test patterns (it has all of the basics, but not some of the really obscure stuff). That disc is my calibration tool of choice.
