Dlp or Lcd?

I am looking to purchase either the Samsung 50" Dlp or the Sony
50" Lcd Grand Wega. Is one technology better than the other?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Also what is the recommened viewing distance on these types of sets.
I will be sitting about 9 ft from the set. I would love to hear from someone who has one of these. Thanks

I have seen both sets. I personally own a dlp projector and like it alot. My .02 is that with a good signal (HDTV etc.) the dlp will look better. The lcd is brighter though, that may be important for your room.

If you are able I would try to view both of these sets with a dvd you are famliar with.

Good luck.

I have the Samsung 50" LCD. I would say the pros would be that the colors are very nice, the picture is very sharp, no convergence, smaller footprint. Also mine natively supports 720P and has VGA and DVI inputs (DVDs played from my HTPC look amazing). The biggest con would be black levels. Blacks are more of a dark gray and it can be a bit distarting at times. The other only real con to me is the expense of the globe, but I don't watch it much so it should last a long while.

To me, black levels are worse on LCDs. But each has their pros/cons.

Just like any other technology, they both have their pluses and minuses. I thought of a lot of different issues and sets before settling with my 5065. I have also read of numerous complaints about the LCD RPTV sets (i.e. Sony GW series). It's going to end up being your preference either way. If you are looking for opinions, I would say without a doubt go with the DLP. You will not be dissapointed. Oh, as far as the viewing distance, I sit about 9.5 ft from my 50".

I have been looking at both as well. My wife insists that the TV "not take up half the room". So been looking as well. At 1st I had decided on LCD as it was cheaper. But most of the DLP's have dropped $500 or so recently. So that make price pretty close. I have read where the next generation of DLP's is coming in April/May (thus the recent price drop on current models).

Keep in mind others make LCD and DLP's. Panasonic make a nice looking LCD. It is a 50" set at not much more then Sony's 42" set. http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp...odel=PT-50LC13 And I saw an RCA DLP and it indeed was pretty nice http://www.rca.com/product/viewdetai...00320,00.html?

Go to http://www.avsforum.com/ for lots and lots of info. The home theater spot is good as well.

Me? We don't move into our home till June, so I'm making a list of 3-4 tv's and keeping my eyes open. But, I can assure you and I would recommend getting a set that has a liberal 30 return policy. You not going to really "see" the TV till it is in your home and you try out your favorite DVD's, HD broadcast, etc.
