Please Tell my friend about Bose...

My college friends were just about to drop 500 dollars on a bose system when I tried to convince them that there money could be spent in much better ways but they refused to believe me. They did however, agree to listen to what everyone on dvdtalk had to say about Bose. So please tell them that Bose are crap and not what there hyped up to be and that there's much better speakers out there.

Bose are the finest speakers for the price I have ever had the pleasure of listening to.

On second thought, make that at any price!

X..............Huh?
Redscare24.........Ask your friends to find some specs on the Bose, to compare with other speakers. That will keep them busy for a very long time. Then they won't find any. A guy at another forum, that use to work for Best Buy, called Bose and asked for specs on some of their speakers, so he could compare. Bose told him........."We don't give out that information". Hmmmmm. Wonder why they're scared to give out the specs? All other speaker companies do. Maybe they think that if they give that info to someone that actually understands what they are telling him, he'll know that he's not getting his money's worth.

The marketers know that most people don't know anything about this stuff, and are easily swayed in their direction. Because Bose is sooo expensive, it must be better! LOL Afterall, they get people to spend $300+ on a clock radio. Hey...........it's a Bose! Back in the 60s and 70s, Bose made a decent speaker (301s, 501s and 901s). But their product went down and the pricetag went up.

Tell your friends to go listen to some different brands, instead of buying blindly, into Bose. If they will listen to different ones, and be honest with themselves, they'll realize there is better out there. If they are determined to buy Bose...........well, you tried to save them. It's their money. The only ones they will impress with them, are themselves, and a handful of others, like them.

Just do a search on this forum and other forums like avsforum.com and you will find numerous threads about Bose and their horrible speaker systems! If your friend still (after reading those many threads) buys Bose then he deserves what he gets for being so small minded and can live with his sub-standard speakers while you and other can enjoy true fidelity from makers like Polk & Paradigm that cost less and sound vastly superior to Bose speakers.

I think X forgot to put the smiley face after his post. A moderator could never be allowed to be one, if they actually had this opinion of Bose.

I concur with X. Bose makes amazing speakers. At first, they may seem a bit pricey, but in actuality you're getting a bargain. Be skeptical of anybody who says differently...this forum is crawling with shills for rival companies.

Is this the new policy to stop all the Bose posts by posting BS like this to agree Bose are great and thus avoid the inevitable long Bose bashing threads. If so, I think it stinks you guys would falsely give out bogus info to someone less knowledgable who may go out and actually buy these bad speakers!

My rear speakers that used to be my fronts are Bose and I love them. I got them on sale which with Bose doesn't happen a lot.

There's a reason why Bose doesn't publish their specs. They don't want you to compare them to others.

There's a reason why Bose always has its own demo station in stores. They don't want you to compare them to others.

They're not bad speakers. They're just priced about 8 to 10 times more than they should be. If the Acoustimass system were around $200, it would be decent. And you'd get what you pay for.

For the same price as the Acoustimass (most likely less, actually), you can get a great Polk, DefTech, etc. system.

It is simple.

Go to a store that sells Bose and ask to compare them to other speakers, side-by-side with the same demo material!

When I first got into putting together a sound system, I picked up a complete Bose package. I barely spent a full movie before I decided to take them back. I spent that money on different brands (based on peer reviews) and have never looked back.

In short, Bose is based soley on marketing. Their R&D, for the most part, is crap. Thus, their speakers are crap. Now they are better than, let's say KLH speakers, but the KLH speakers are about 1/6th the price of Bose. Friends don't let friends buy Bose.

I believe the early responses this thread were written in recognition of the Do Not Feed The Trolls policy here. $^)

"No highs, no lows - it must be Bose!"

As Frank S said, have your friend do a search on audio discussion boards. One that I frequent is the Steve Hoffman forums.

Friends don't let friends buy Bose.

Oh, and Frank? There may have been just the tiniest hint of scarasim in Groucho's reply.

Tell your friend to go compare Bose to some Klipsch Reference series (at or below the Bose price).

So, your "friends" do not value your opinion? Yet, they would trust countless anonymous on-line posts from people that they do not know?

I smell TROLL!

Sonicflood

p.s. EXACTLY which Bose system were they interested in?

Bose speakers are overpriced. Bose spends most of its money marketing their products - not developing better products.

I would not recommend Bose unless you can get 75% off. Look into Paradigm speakers.

You can compare Bose and a few other brands side by side at Best Buy. I compared Bose and Klipsch. I preferred the Klipsch speakers, and they were less expensive. I've owned Bose speakers and always thought they sounded pretty good, but they are overpriced for what you get.

I don't know anyone who's worked in audio, including myself, who recommend Bose. The speakers aren't horrible, but for the price you can do a lot better. It's like Sony receivers. A 700 dollar Sony usually sounds worse than a 400 dollar Onkyo.

The thing I don't understand is their weird demo that "proves" they can give full surround sound just from two speakers. You stand there and listen, it sounds like regular two speaker stereo and the graphics all trumpet "FULL SURROUND SOUND!!!!!" What are they smoking? Their whole marketing campaign is based on a big fat lie.

Personally I don't like Bose and will NEVER own a pair.

But I don't understand all the big deal. If some people like them, they enjoy them, that watch more movies or listen to more music because of them...more power to them.

I totally agree you can do "better" for less money. But what is "better" to me, may not be "better" to someone else. I say don't worry so much about the system and enjoy more movies or music.
