Taking the DirecTV plunge - is it most reliable to order right off their site?

About to go for the 3 receivers/Total Choice Plus package.
Free equipment/install $39/mo + 4.99 per receiver 2 and 3

This seemed more reliable than opting for one of those spam "satellite tv" emails that flood my inbox every day. Am I correct in that line of thinking?

I think you are. I ordered directly from them off their Web site and all went well. They still contract the installation out to a local provider anyhow. By the way, I'd recommend you spend the extra $99 for DirecTV with TiVo (you also pay an extra $4.99 a month for the TiVo service). It's a small price to pay for an incredible service. If you get TiVo, make sure you have them feed two cables to the TiVo box so you can record two programs at once (or record one and watch another).

I second the Tivo suggestion. One of the best entertainment investments I ever made. Got my DirectTivo from these folks:

& was pleased with service, etc.

I ordered direct from them with no problems. I'm very satisfied so far.

I got my DirectTV Tivo a week ago, and it's completely changed the way I watch TV. Well worth it!

If you have a HD television I would go with Dishnetwork. They have a good deal going now. Three receivers with the Main one being a HD or PVR and installed for $49 which gets credited to your account. You have to commit for 1 year to the Top-100 package. Good Luck

I just signed up for DirecTV with a Tivo, and got the install and equipment (including the Tivo!) free after rebate. Try calling around to the places in your area that sell it and see if the rebate is still going. I bought mine from Magnolia Hi-Fi in Seattle, and while they said the deal ended Jan 17, the rebate form gives an expiration date in March. DirecTV may also offer the rebate if you order directly from them, but they didn't offer when I called them.
