new pansonic theather suggestions

i just bought a pansonic home theather with some christmas money. I put it in my bed room which isn't big. The theather has 600 watts and 5 speakers. When I played my first movie it seemed extrmly loud. Did I buy too much power and speakers or is my room to small? Or do I just need to adjust some settings? Shoud I return it? Any info would be greatly appraciated.

Turn the volume down.............
Will you ever have it in a bigger room? You may want it louder later.....

Yes... turn it down then! Are you obligated to HAVE to have the volume turned to a certain percent no matter what? Each amplifer model will have different sound levels when set at the equivilant volume level (say 50%). It's ALWAYS better to have to much power then not enough so that you never have to push the amp into clipping or other distortions. The higher you go on the volume the higher the distortion will be so if you have a amp that only needs to be set at 30% volume to get all the sound you need then you are going to experience a lot less distortion then a amp (with similar specs) that will need to be at 70% to achieve the same sound level.
