Is this a good price on this HK receiver?

I found a new Harman Kardon receiver with specs listed below:

HK AVR230
features...50 watts per channel (sounds kind of low to me)
Coax and Optical inputs (2 input each/1 output)
5 A/V inputs (including S video)...pretty standard
DD EX, DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete
Logic 7 for 7.1 channels....Logic 7 is???
Component switching!!!...2 component inputs
7.1 preamp outputs

I found this for $379.88 with free shipping. Is that a good price? Would this be a worthwhile upgrade from my current receiver listed below?

That's a good price if your getting it from the authorized dealer, I think you're getting it from (they are in NY and send HK quotes via email).

One thing to keep in mind if you're going to be using the component switching, is the 230 only has a 30Mhz bandwidth rating for it.

HK's power ratings are usually pretty accurate and "real", not just pumped up specs like some of the other brands use.

It also depends on the speakers you're going to drive with it. Your Denon is no slouch and you might want to pick out your new speakers first before you commit to a new receiver (unless you're specifically looking for component switching). I would also recommend looking at PSB and Paradigm speakers during your search. A nice system for HT for both music and movies is PSB's Image Line. Two setups I would recommend listening to are:

fronts: Image 4T
center: Image 8C or 9C
rears: Image 1B

since you already have a sub, you could also get away with:

fronts: Image 2B
center: 8C or 9C
rears: 1B

Thanks for the information on the PSB speakers. I might look into that soon.

Unfortunately, I do need the component switching capabilities since I have and XBox, DVD player, and HDTV OTA tuner...my TV only has two component inputs. I was hoping I could get an AV receiver that has component so that I could kill two birds with one stone... Upgrade my receiver and get component switching. I don't really want to get one of the JVC component switches.]

About the 30Mhz though. What receivers have a higher frequency bandwidth for component switching. The JVC switch only has 30Mhz also if I am not mistaken.

Thanks again for the help.

I don't know what your budget is but the Denon 3803 has component switching at 100Mhz,110 watts per channel, 7.1 surround or 5.1 and use the other 2 to power another zone for multiple room applications. I just bought one at www.6ave.com for $648.06 shipped. Just call them and ask for the 3802 and they will tell you they are out of stock and will upgrade to the 3803 for the same price.
