Tivo, ReplayTV, ... what to get?

If you've got DirecTV, the best option is a DirecTivo. No contest.
However, if you don't, I would personally go with Replay. I love my Replay - try to get one of the earlier models though that still supports Commercial Advance. Yes - it doesn't work perfectly, but when it does work, which I find to be quite often, it's a fantastic feature.
Replay can also hook up into my home LAN and I can transfer shows onto my computer.
In the end, really, they both do the same thing.

Getting my ReplayTV has been a life changing experience.
The 5040 & 5080 have the auto-commercial advance. Being able to hook it up via ethernet is great too. Some of these great features are being eliminated on the new 55xx series.

i do second the props on the commercial advance. people knock it because it only works 90-95% of the time...for the few times it doesn't i can hit quickskip. it is pretty impressive the first time you see it in action...then you just kind of take it for granted.

I have used Tivo for over two years now and I wouldn't CONSIDER watching t.v. any other way. I can't speak for Replay as I've never tried it but either way, you won't regret using a PVR.

i still dont have either because i cant make my mind up. i have directv and want to stay with it (i think). i want a pvr. i want hdtv (i have a capable tv). i have all these wants and i dont know what would be the best for me...so im officially lost and confused.
i know directv is coming with an hdtv/tivo box which would be awesome...but it sounds like it is gonna be pretty $.
what to do?

I have UTV(ultimate tv) and love it. Its built in with a directv receiver. it has the best menu set up and tells you how much space is left. only problem is they arent make them anymore. i figure i'll eventually swtich over to directivo but dont want til they offer the home media option for the directivo boxes.

I have the FREE pvr service that came with dishnetwork, I did have to buy the box for $200 but there is NO subscription fee....
I will NEVER watch live TV again.... although IMO Tivo is much better at recording shows - the dishnetwork pvr has sum bugs, and isn’t as user friendly, but is FREE!
