setup questions

I have the panasonic 47wx53, and I'm not getting widescreen tv shows or (non-dvd)movies filling the entire screen. Yes, I know I'm going to have bars with 2.35:1 ratio, but shows and movies in 1.85:1 still do not fill the screen. What setting should I be using? For normal TV watching, I stretch using the JUST mode. I also have Dish network, choosing 16x9 for the TV shape. Any ideas?

Also, I was getting better antena reception on my older TV. I'm using a powered antena from Radio Shack. Any idea why it's not as good?

Unless someone that owns your tv comments in the thread, you may need to check the manual to see what different "zoom modes" the tv may have. Also check your dvd player settings for ratio.

if you do the math, 16:9 is the same as 1.78:1. So a movie that is 1.85:1 will not fill up a normal widescreen TV.

I've tried all the zooms, and none show it full. On DVD's, 1.85:1 fills the screen without distortion.

It may not be a matter of getting poorer reception. Standard television does look worse on an hdtv set than it does on a standard television set.
