Comparing THD Percentages?

I'm shopping for a new HT receiver. I was really interested in the Onkyo SR-701 but it's Total Harmonic Distortion ["Distortion derived from the creation of harmonics (multiples of a base frequency signal) in an audio system adding additional frequency peaks to the output"], was 0.08% @ 8ohms (20-20,000 Hz). Even if it is THX certified, that seems high by today's standards IMO.

My question is how much does the percentage influence your decision when comparing different amps/receivers? I'm leaning towards a Yamaha 1300/2300 or 1400/2400. Thanks in advance for your input (pun intended!).

Since the human ear can not hear distortion below .10% it really is not a problem as long as it is below .10%. Most higher end receivers will have somewhere in the .05 range but .08 is perfectly fine and if you like the receiver otherwise I wouldn;t let this spec bother you in the least bit!

Pay more attention to S/N Ratio.

Also pay attention to the frequency response listed and whether the stats are listed as "all channels driven" or not.
Many manufacturers will list specs with only 2 channels driven so they look better on a quick, non-critical glance.
