Does Component = Progressive All The Time

I know that HDTV can produce a progressive scan picture because they have component inputs/outputs but I've been seeing more TV's that come with component inputs/outputs but they're not HDTV's.

My question is if TV's (which are not HDTV) have the component plug-ins in the back, can they produce a progressive scan picture?

There are some TVs that have component inputs that are not progressive scan compatible.

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks!

I just didn't really know for sure that just because a TV has component plug-ins that it doesn't mean it automatically can produce a progressive scan picture.

I wouldn't say totally separate. A progressive scan signal is transmitted through component cables. However, component cables are not exclusively progressive scan. They can also transmit a regular interlaced signal with superior color clarity to S-video or composite.
