Best Buy has a 7" Polaroid model for $299. I just checked online and it's out of stock. You may have better luck trying in store..

I have a 8" Initial/Audiovox/US Logic DVD player....I believe they are all the same player, just manufactured under different models.

I like it, it works fine for being a cheaper player. I think they are around $350 now, maybe more, prolly less.....

I know CompUSA has them, WalMart....and other places too. Ebay has some region-free ones also....

cyberhome ch-ldv 712

Hey,

I have just ordered a cyberhome ch-ldv 712. I heard it is the best. Great quality, and it is progressive. Only $300. 7" screen.

http://www.cyberhome.com/

check it out!

That looks good but my venture into purchasing a player has been a mess, I ordered the intial dvd player from walmart tuesday, then get an email saying it was backordered and they didn't know when it would come in. so i cancel the order or so i thought and decide to try target around my way. I went to purchase a player, handed the guy my credit card and he said he needed id, ok fine i give him the Id with my pic and he says sorry its expired and won't accept my credit card. I didn't realize the pic changes when it expires. then i go home purchase a player from circuit city onilne. i Then check my email and what do i see but an email from walmart saying my player shipped, so no i have two players on the way. i guess i can just tell ups to send one back when they come right? they can't force me to sign for it. I hope thy leave it at the door so i can say i never got it then sell one.

2 post and both supporting a unknown web site

Please reread the rules for the site.

Cyberhome is a new chinese startup that also makes for the Argus brand.

Initial is made by shinsoinc/shinco that makes for players for Mintex/Initial/US logic and shinsonic brands. They used to make for Apex, Audiovox and Panasonic.

Both look to be about the same in specs to me. The 8" Initial is the same price as the 7" Cyberhome so it seems to be a slam dunk to me.

I have the 7" initial which I got last year when it first came out and it has been rock solid.

I have this player, and I like it a lot. Picked up an FM transmitter at Radio Shack, and now I have my DVDs broadcasting over my car stereo.

ok mr. moderator man.....

1. Apex portable dvd players are terrible.
2. Cyberhome is actually a division of cyberdrive(computer company if ya didn't know!)
3. Cyberhome ch-ldv 712 is only $280.00 on amazon!
4. That dumb 8" initial's screen resulution is crap...looks like a gameboy screen, also the 8" initial is $350.00 at lowest

In conclusion....There is a $70 price difference...you do the math... Bigger screen for crappy resolution? or Cyberhome for progressive scanning?

Have you seen the picture quality of the CyberHome ? How does it compare to some the other players, especially some of the progressive scan Toshiba models ??

I'm curious because the specs and the price look great..

Mowork,

email me about the dvd player. Also... yeah the players screen reolution is great. I rented a panasonic lv-70(costs $500) for a plane flight. The cyberhome player is way better in quality. The battery on the cyberhome lasts about 5 to about 5 and a half hours. Compared to the Toshiba models... The resolution is a little better on the toshibas... But its deffinatley not worth the extra $200+ bux. It comes with everything you need. I highly reccomend it. The anti shock thing on it is great also.

I've been interested in a portable DVD player for a while now.

Reading this thread has me fairly well confused.

bottom line is there are a bunch of good cheap players out now with more coming.

The retailers have started to gostraight to Chinese factories that make for name brands to cutout the middle man pricing.

So good deals for all!

Always look for backup to anyone that is over top in there support for one brand.

Hey,
sorry bfrank... I forgot about the rules. I'm not just pushing for cyberhome. It's just I really like it and I'm trying to help out people with interest in portable dvd players. My friend has a audiovox Pe701 eddie bauer and thats a pretty good player. But it is really bulky. I just can't stand the quality of those apex players. So flimsy.

Danol is about 12 months behind the times. 16:9 portable players under $500 are very common.

bfrank - I just bought the Initial 7" IDM-1731 Portable DVD player (sale for $199) yesterday and so far, ... it's great!!!

FYI: I only changed the following default settings:

1) Brightness: 6 (default 8)
2) Color: 5 (default 8)
3) Audio Speakers = Lt & Rt (default Stereo)
4) V SURR: ON (default Off)

Still on the 1st battery charge, and "Tomb Raider 2" & "Finding Nemo" looks very 3D-like impressive! The sound from the headphones (Sony MDR-Q22) is just great, ... although the limited range sound from the Initial DVD player 2-speakers are just OK, ... but clear.

Phil

I will second Phil. I think I got this for $249 or $299 about 3 months ago and I have used it nearly every work day (on the train) since. The battery lasts about 3 hours or so, the picture is very good, and the sound is good too (with headphones). It's been great for catching up on TV DVDs like NYPD Blue, 24, and The Office.

I just bought a Cyberhome CH-LDV 712 which has a 7" screen. It was on sale for $249 at Fry's.

The quality I can't speak much of but the player boasted a lot of things I needed. Easy region-free hack, NTSC-PAL output, comes with all the cables. I'm taking it on a week-long trip so hopefully I won't be drop-kicking it sometime during that.

Here is some info for ya. Walmart sells the cyberhome 7" for 218 and the initial 7" for 198. They also have this cool new dual screen 6.2" where both screens can be hung from the back of a headrest up to 5' from the main unit. Also comes with 3 headphone jacks, car cord, battery plus AC adapter....Price?..278.
Now that sounds like a pretty cool unit. Check it out at Walmart.com.
