Punch Drunk Love Blew Up My Subwoofer

While watching "Punch Drunk Love" last night. The opening scene with the car crash blew up my JBL 10" Sub. Its about 5years old and have never experienced any problems with it. When I opened it up the 1.25/250 V fuse was toast. I replaced it with another and when I powered it up it immediatly blew again. What could be the problem with it? Is it worth getting fixed? Where can I find a good sub for about $200-$300. All your help is appreciated.

Same as you.

XxX (avalanche scene) blew my 15" JBL sub. I took it to a local authorized repair center. It cost me ~$100 to get it fixed. I opted for the repair because I didnt feel like shelling out 400 bucks again. The choice is yours.

yeah, TURN DOWN THOSE SUBS!

having a sub at 3/4 or full power is a bad bad bad thing.

my sub will kick into protection mode if i have it at 90% or above. if having your sub at 1/2 isnt giving you them umph needed, maybe a second sub, or a bigger sub is in order.

having that little extra rumble isnt worth replacing a sub every other movie.

Nonsense.
I hate to call you out, but if the amp in your powered sub can't handle being at 3/4 power it's junk.
YMMV.

Mine got blown awhile back and I have yet to replace it. I just don't feel like shelling the money out for it - even though I do miss the sound of it. *sigh*

I use a Boston Acoutics PV1000, Awesome sound and power with a small foot print (even tho theres 75lbs of stone on top of it to keep it still). It more than satisfys my need for LFE in a fairly large room.

that is a very nice sub. very musical, but a little light. the stone probably helps a LOT.

Not to mention the restaurant toilet scenes. That really tortures my sub.

SVS Subwoofer all the way. I can hit 115db with my PC+ 16-46 without any distortion. By far the cleanest, clearest, most accurate subwoofer under $1,000.
