I feel I'm moving to a place where the speaker wire will be very visible and/or an obstacle. Buying new or different speaker wire really isn't an option for me, so I just wanted to see if anyone here has any great ideas.

Well depending on the location you could try running it along the baseboard. You can also get cable channel at Home Depot to run along a wall.

You can also get nearly flat cable from any number of online sources.

My main concern is running to the rear speakers. One will be okay b/c it'll be against the wall....the other will not be, so I'll have wire running across an area that people will walk through....not so good. Even flat cable wouldn't help that, would it?

Well no, not unless you could get the cable under the carpet. I purchased on of these at Staples to hide an electrical cable in my theater, might work for you.

Also, how "unsightly" are they? I'm not sure how my wife would respond to having something ugly in such a visible area (although naked wires I'm sure are MUCH uglier! ).

I think those look too "industrial" for a home.

How about running the wires over head? Is that an option?? Going up and over...or going the same way as the other speaker, just extended it to reach the speaker. So essentially your right and left speakers follow the same wall. I dont know if that makes sense.

I think mine is brown actually, I could not find them on the Staples site. They are not the best looking things I will admit but then again I am not sure you have many choices.

I use duct tape, but that's because I don't care how it looks. I just don't want to trip over them and rip them out of whatever they're attached to.

Is there an unfinished basement / crawlspace underneath the room? You could drill a small home in the floor in both sides of the room, and run th cable on the ceiling of the basement.

Do a search for "Wiremold" at www.homedepot.com.

The C10 model does fine around the baseboards if you have hardwood floors, or if you do not want to disturb the carpet. Great for apartment setups.

Is it possible for you to use the lowest, thinnest of the cable orgaziners that Brian recommends and perhaps covering it with an oak strip or something from Home depot to make it look more appealing to the eye? Or check Home Depot or Lowes to see if they have wooden or marble or other forms of separators that have a channel on the back of them, enough to run the wire. You can always make a channel with a router if you find something that works.

You could also get really good at crawling around in the attic and fishing through the walls.

I ran mine through the attic. I had to use a lot more speaker wire that way, but it's worth it.

My speaker wires are hidden at the top of the ceiling behind a rope light. It doesn't look like the classiest thing, but it fits well for an apartment for 4 college guys.

I just go under the carpet to the rears.

I'm in a loft, no attic, hardwood floors, going across the width of a very long room. Solution? AR's flat wire tape. 16 gauge, about an inch wide, self-adhesive. I painted over it and it's truly invisible, no holes or ugly floor covers! Costs about a buck per foot.

I sent the wire to my rears through the drop ceiling, and painted it white to match the walls where it comes back down. Paint works pretty well.

My rear speakers are run into the basement and then up the wall behind me. No visible wires at all.

i decided to buy 30 foot of speaker wire,
run the left rear wire side by side with right rear wire,
then i will run the left rear wire around my right rear speaker stand,
along the back of my sofa
