Question about the Panasonic DMRE80S dvd-recorder
Since this unit has a hard drive that can store up to 104 hrs of video can you then transfer it to a dvd-ram disc-remove the commericals -then record it back to the hard drive then make your final recording to a dvd-r disc?

Well, if this new Panny recorder is the newer version of my current Panny DMR-HS2, it should allow you to edit and store the video directly from the hard drive, which you can then burn to the DVD-R. No need to do the DVD-RAM step unless you want to archive it off of the hard drive (you can't rip a DVD-R to the internal HD, only DVD-RAMs).

With this recorder you will not have to record to RAMS for editing. Movies like Helen of Troy, parts 1 and 2, would be recorded to the drive back to back. Within Direct Navigator select "Shorten Segment" and flag the begining and ending of the commercials and any other unwanted video. You can then speed record to a RAM. From what I was told by Panasonic customer service speed recording can only be done to a RAM. Recordings to DVD-R is done in real time. I will now better when I purchase the unit when they are relased during end of June.
