Directv Signal Problem
Ok....so far I've enjoyed Directv. I haven't had much time to play with the Tivo yet, but that isn't my problem.
I have a three room setup. Tivo with two lines in LR, and two bedrooms each with a regular Hughes receiver. I understand that during shitty weather signal loss will occur, but there is something strange going on with the signal in my bedroom.
I'm receiving so much artifacting, signal loss, etc. in my room during crappy weather that it makes it impossible to watch a program. This seems to affect local channels less. But the signal on the other three lines in the house are fine. Even in normal weather I will get artifacting and signal loss that doesn't occur on the other lines.
I have a dual LNB with a 2x4 multi-switch. I also switched boxes to eliminate that possibility of a problem. I also did go up to the roof in the monsoon yesterday to check the connections. The line from the mulitswitch for my room was a little loose so I tightened it. So it is possible a little moisture got in the line.
Before I go calling the installation company and bitching can anyone think of why this is happening? Should I give it a few nice days to see if the line "drys out"? Also, since the problem occurs much less during normal weather I'm worried that if I call the installers they will come out and say there is nothing wrong.

If the problem only exists in 1 room, then that's where the problem is.
The receiver, cabling, connectors, or that port on the switch box may be bad. Since you switched out the receiver, you have eliminated this to be a problem source.
Try switching out the ports on the 2x4 switch.
Other than that, I can't suggest anything you can do without tools of your own.
Also, why do you have signal loss in bad storms? Of the 3 years I lived in Kansas, I only lost signal once, and it was intermittent. Of the 5 years I have lived in Wyoming, even the 6" per hour snow storms haven't affected my signal...
But...
#1 I have DishNetwork
#2 I installed my own dish and know it is pointed perfectly
I have seen some nasty Kansas storms roll in the path of my satellite signal, and have lost signal only once.
Something is seriously wrong if you are losing signal in anything but a 10-year storm.
