Sony or Philips 36" ?

I have an opportunity to buy a Philips 36" flat screen TV for a bit less than it normally sells for (through my job). But I can also buy a Sony WEGA 36" for pretty much the same price online.

Sony: http://www.goodguys.com/adtemplate.a...r=pricegrabber

Philips: http://www.goodguys.com/adtemplate.a...r=pricegrabber

What would you do with your $1,000? I don't know why the Philips retails for more, but I can get it for around $1,000 (including shipping/no tax).

Thanks for any advice here! I did look at the AVS forums BTW.

My Philips (a different, cheaper model... not flat screen also) in the bedroom has been a royal pain in the butt. It uses some weird toggle system for its power on/off remote button, so it doesn't work that well with universal remotes, and I'm not a fan of the picture.

On the other hand, I've owned three WEGAs and one WEGA XBR, and I've only had problems with one of them (and I suspect that was a fluke). I'd gladly stick with Sony for direct view televisions. I'd vote WEGA... especially with the free shipping. Just make sure to have a buddy help you move... those things are heavy.

Thanks... I feel more comy with the Sony. I believe the main diff here is that the Sony doesn't have PIP. I don't care about that.
