What does "convergence" mean?

I always read about people's HDTV units having problems with convergence.

Taken from the FAQ that sits atop this forum:

Convergence - Alignment of the red, blue, and green electron guns in a TV. An adjust more common to RPTVs
Most RPTV's allow you to adjust the alignment in small increments. My Mits puts up a 64-point grid of white lines on a black background. I can horizonatally and vertically "nudge" the electron guns for red and blue at each of those points to make sure they are aligned properly and produce a white line.

Yeah, the new technology is incredibly intimidating, especially when coupled with so many horror stories. In the end, I think if you educate yourself well and treat your new window with respect, you'll be very happy.
