Widescreen TV Ratio Aspects
Hi
Have a Widescreen TV and am interested what aspects people here have their TV's on when watching DVD's(typically 2:35)
My Tv has 6 aspects.
2 i don't use at all for DVD which is 14:9 and 4:3.
But i am a little confused as to what aspect to use out of the remaining 4.
16:9
Subtitle Zoom
Widescreen
Superwide.
I worry that by using the 16:9 i am perhaps missing somethings however small of the edges and that widescreen and Subtitle modes though perhaps showing the film as it is meant to be has the big black bars on it.So at the moment i seem to prefer Superwide as it fills most of the screen up though having slight Bars.
What do you guys use/recommend?
Thanx

I recommend not going to extreme measures because of the lack of picture on some of your screen. If the movie is 4:3, I watch it 4:3. 2.35:1, I watch also 2.35:1.
The only time I use a WIDE mode, if for crap 4:3 broadcast and only because the issue of burn in on the plasma

On my Mitsubishi, anamorphic WS DVD's are watched STANDARD regardless of aspect ratio. Non-anamorphic are seen in EXPAND, again regardless of Aspect ratio. This expands vertically so people are not all short and fat. 1.33 movies are watched in 4:3. Other 4:3 programming especially cable is in STRETCHED mode to avoid burn-in. Never use ZOOM.

Speaking of which is a 16:9 TV, really 16:9?
Because if you do the math, 16/9 comes out to 1.77:1. I was always under the assumption that 16:9 TVs were 1.85:1 Which actually would require a 16.7:9 ratio.
So is the 16:9 ratio just really an approximation of what it really is?
