I need hookup help!!!!

I bought a new Sony 20" flatscreen tv and a new sony vcr. When I plugged the satellite in through the vcr to the tv. Here's how I hooked up my satellite. Satellite AV out to VCR AV in VCR AV Out to tv AV in. My question is to see the better satellite reception through the AV input do I have to have my VCR turned on at all times when I am watching the satellite. When I turn my VCR off the satellite goes off. Did I hook this up right? Is there a way to view the satellite with the VCR turned off? I would appreciate any help.

Does your TV have multiple video inputs? You could rune the Sat. to a TV input1, the VCR to input2, and TV out to the VCR in.

Not exactly sure on which models you have to give more information.

I have two A/V inputs one in the back and one in the front. I have my dvd player plugged into one of them. I am trying to eliminate not having my vcr on all the time to view the sharp clean satellite image from the AV input. I have the following models: the tv is a Sony 20" FD Trinitron WEGA Flat-Tube TV KV-20FS100 and the vcr is a Sony 4-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VCR with Flash Rewind and Commercial Skip SLV-N55. Sorry for not giving enough info. Would appreciate the help.

The VCR has to be on to output a signal from the composite outputs.

It will pass the signal through coax when turned off though

Thanks, I get a better picture through the outputs. The VCR being on all the time just annoys me. I'll just have to get used to it. I appreciate your help.
