Any truth to this about the PS2?
Alright, I heard rumors about if you play DVD's in your PS2, the lifespam of the system becomes shorter. Is there any truth to this? Thanks for any advice.

Well, logically speaking if you play your DVDs in your PS2 you are using your PS2 more often; therefore, you are adding more wear to your PS2 which would shorten its lifespan. However, will your PS2 die before you throw it in the closet......who knows!

It's not in the fact that the games themselves are DVD's. The problem is that when you watch a DVD movie, the disc is constantly spinning. When you play a game, the game loads the information and the disc stops spinning until it needs to access more information.

I have watched a bunch of Dvd's on my PS2(over 50) and played a number of games. Mine still seems to work.
As with any item a small percentage of people will experience a problem. Since the Ps2 has sold over 40 million consoles even a 1 % failure rate would mean 400,000 people might experience some problems.
The XBox has also had some issues although again at rates close to the PS2. Both have had some problems with a small number of units.
The safest way to never have a problem with anything is to never use it. The more often you use it the odds increase very slightly that overtime something might happen.
I will enjoy my PS2 and if need be buy another one. Playing it seems like more fun than just looking at the unplugged in console
