Need Help With Buying Multi-Region DVD Player

I am in the market for a multi-region DVD player. I have 2 DVDs that I recently got and 1 is Region 4 and 1 is Region 2 (PAL). I've been looking online, but am having trouble cutting through all the technical specs. I've seen one at Best Buy recently that online reviews say is multi-region, but the employees say is not. It's made by a company named Cyber Home and is model number CH-DVD 500. It retails for about $120. If this does indeed play multi-region DVDs, I'll pick it up tomorrow. Can anybody help or steer me in the right direction? Thanks!

re: dvd player

Hi.
Yeah. The Best Buy people don't know about the ability to turn the Cyber Home 500 into an all-region machine.

Either go the the International forum at this site or perform a Cyber home search. Either way, you should find everything you need to know.

Get the Cyber Home 402 if you can. There is still quite a few bugs they are working out with the 500, and the last fix disabled some functions. The 402 is bullet proof and is easily made region free and has an onboard PAL -> NTSC converter. I picked this model up for $45 (after MIR). It makes a great second player.

to make the cyberhome region free all you need to do is open the tray, select setup, push 1,3,6,9 on the remote. push left three times, and right once... setect version, and then select region 0. That is all you need to do to make the 402 region free.

The reason that best buy people will tell you that it is not able to be hacked is because they can get fired if they tell this to the customers. I know because I work there part time while I am in school.

this is the hack for the 500 taken from vcdhelp.com
1. Turn on your dvd player
2. open the tray
3. press the stop button on your remote
4. enter 1999 using the remote

a menu will pop up.

5. select the region code using the remote (set it to ALL)
6. confirm it, using enter
7. leave the menu using the return button on your remote

8. close the tray
