Cable help needed

I recently received a 27 inch Toshiba TV. It's got all the jacks in it-- component, s-video, etc. The model looks almost identical to the Sony Wega TVs except for the whole Toshiba name of course. It offers the 3-line digital comb. So of course, I started to look at updating the cables for my connections since I was using the standard A/V and coaxial. What I'd like to know is, are the Monster Cables (specifically: s-video and component) good enough to warrant their price? Are all the others that much more inferior? I saw some GE cable that were $10(s-video) and $20(component) that claimed 24k gold, etc-- they were at Target if that helps. I know Monster Cables are the best but what makes them so good and does it really matter if I don’t have a high-definition TV? Is there that big of a difference between the three "generations" of Monster Cables? Oh, I'm looking to hook up my DVD player and Satellite receiver. Any help/recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Monster Cable ULTRA Series THX 1000 Component Video is one of the the top selling products for component cables. It
was also featured at the Monster Home Theatre booth at the Consumer Electronic Show here in Las Vegas.

THX Lucasfilm teamed up with Monster Cable because they do manufacture the best cables with quality like none other.

On ebay I am selling some cheap Monster products:

-Monster Cable ULTRA THX 1000 Component Video
( Starting Price: $77.99 )

And some Car Audio:

-Monster Cable XLN PRO 2C-3M 9.84 ft. xlnpro
( Starting Price: $55.99 )

-Monster Cable XLN PRO 4C-2M 6.56ft. xlnpro
( Starting Price: $64.99 )

Make your own! Get some Belden 1694A ($.33 a foot), or for components (i.e. short runs) get 1695A ($1 a foot), then some good quality RCAs (I like Cardas SLVR at about $12 a pair) and start soldering (with high quality solder)! Still not super cheap figuring at $36 just for the RCAs on a component set, but you are getting if not exceeding Monster quality. You can also try BlueJeans cable as they pretty much hand-make what I just described (no I'm not affiliated, just like their concept for people not wanting to DIY). They have their own website, but also sell on eBay.

Plus when you're done, you can use the leftover 1694A for some digital audio IC's, or re-wire the cable runs through your house (get high quality F-connectors for this like Canare).
