Tv (tube) advice needed

My gf's father is in the market for a tv, and has asked me for advice. I'm not really that up on tvs, since I purchased a Panasonic 47" last year, and haven't really looked at them since.

He is having a custom built entertainment center made, and wants the tv to fit within that, because of this, he's not interested in projection tvs. He is either looking for the biggest tube w flat screen, or some alternative.

Doing some searching the biggest flat screen tube I find is the Sony Wega at 36", is this correct?

Please somebody give me the latest and greated in flat screen tubes.. He is interested in the biggest, and price isnt' that important, however hes not looking to pay 3k+ really either.

I can't add much to say other than I know Sony makes a 40" tube tv. I have the Sony 34" widescreen set kv-34xbr800 which is an awesome set. RCA makes a 38" widescreen set that has been recently discontinued and people are finding awesome deals on it at Circuit City or Sears.

Last weekend I saw the RCA P38XXX at CC for $1499.00. Remember that one had the DirectV Build In HDTV receiver. Now that was a super hot deal!!!!!!
I saw that at the CC in Mesa, AZ.
