Discrete or Matrix
When a receiver denotes 6.1 (as in 6 x 100, not virtual 6.1 like some SONY models), is it by default able to reproduce DTS ES discrete soundtracks?

Probably, but go to the manufacturer's website to be sure. You should be able to download the product manual and check the detailed specs.
