Widescreen DVD on 4:3 TV = loss of resolution?
On another forum, there is a widescreen vs. fullscreen debate going on, and one of the members keeps saying that when you play a widescreen DVD on a 4:3 tv, you lose half the resolution resulting in worse picture quality than a fullscreen DVD. Is this true?

No. The other poster is confused. If you display an amorphic film on a 4:3 TV as opposed to a 16:9 set you lose at least 33% of the resolution. If you've got a 4:3 TV w/ anamorphic squeeze then you won't lose any resolution either. None of this applies to a full screen version of a film.
