Mustek v520 ($50 player)

just got this from Smartbargains.com--I had read the reviews on vcdhelp.com and decided it would be worth the risk to get a region free player. the other day I picked a Hotdog magazine with a demo dvd bagged with it: Hotdog is a UK publication, but I didn't pay attention so of course the disk was region 2. vcdhelp lists the steps to make the Mustek v520 region free but the disk freaked out: I set to region 2 and the disk played. the disable Macrovision code doesn't seem to work: the recorded image fades in and out and the screen image is unwatchable. the nice thing about the v520 is the size, very small. the case is silver metal. there is a power button that you can push in to activate the power button on the remote or push the button again to totally power off. the tray sounds like it's about to break when is ejects. the TV settings are weird: I set the player for regular 4:3 TV but it displays double black bars--bars for the movie playing and blacker bars above and below which are somewhat distracting. if I decide to get any other region disks, I'll be glad to have this player, but it seems like a cheap product. as long as it breathes life, I won't complain too much, but I miss my JVC that the burgler took....
