solid but affordable dvd player?

im not looking for the best dvd player out there but are there any solid dvd players for like 100 bucks or so i could pick up. right now i just want something that will last and not mess up or give me a drastic drop off in quality.

later on when i save up cash i want to get a really good one.

I have a Toshiba 2109 for several years now. If you don't plan to watch the extras on DVDs, then it's a good solid player. But this player has a lot of problem with playing DVD extras. Problems ranging from simple pixelation problem to outright freeze which requires turning off/on power to reset the player. As far as playing the movie itself, the player works very well. Only has problem with a few titles including the recently released Spellbound Criterion DVD.

well i dont want a dvd player that freezes at all. just a nice solid one that will last, play the movies (and anything else like extras) and last a few years.

sounds like toshiba is one of the better dvd brands...i guess ill take a look at those.

Vanns.com has the JVC XV-S500BK for $109 in the Clearance section, including free shipping. Not only that, but it comes with a free 'Reservoir Dogs' DVD!

I just bought the XV-S600BK from them last week, and I love it! (It's the same as the 500, but it plays DVD-Audio as well. It's available for $169, and comes with 2 free DVDs!)

I swear by Panasonic players. All the 'problem' discs that other players have trouble with run flawless on my Pannys. Solid and affordable.

Always go Pioneer with DVD players if you can afford it. They get wonderful reviews, and nobody I know has ever had a problem with any of them.
