Bought a Prog. Scan and am having trouble!

I just bought a Toshiba progressive scan dvd player and it works fine in progressive scan mode on my one 53 inch Toshiba TV. However, I also have a 2nd Hitachi 4:3 53 inch DigitalTV in another room...when I hook the dvd player into the tv using component cables and in progressive mode, the tv just flicks off and on with a black screen...dvd, black screen, dvd, black screen....It will only function properly in interlaced mode! Any suggestions...yes the Hitachi is Digital ready!

Thanks

Digital-ready doesn't necessarily mean the TV is capable of displaying a progressive signal. Check the owner's manual to confirm that the TV can, in fact, handle progressive. I'm willing to bet that it can't.

If the TV is not able to view a progressive signal would I possibly have trouble in the future if I decided to start using High Definition TV?

If the TV can not do 480p (which is what the progressive scan DVD players do) then there is no hope for high def which requires even more high end electronics and CRT's to do.

on the back of toshiba dvd players there is a little switch that says I--P make sure it is set to P. Go into the menu of the dvd player w/ the remote and set progressive mode to auto.
