Help! Screen flickers when...

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew what this problem might be. I have a Toshiba sd-2800 DVD player, and a RCA 19 inch tv, its about 5 years old...... If a scene cuts quick, or a flash of light appears (like a explosion and the flashing on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre main menu) makes the screen flickers for half a second.... This is really bugging me, any idea what it could be?

I used to have an RCA TV that did the same thing (or at least something similar). I was using the S-video input, and a bright flash would cause a blank screen with SIGNAL UNAVAILABLE displayed briefly. I even once exchanged a DVD, thinking maybe the disc was bad.

When I quit using the S-video input, instead using the composite video input (yellow RCA jack), the problem went away. The picture wasn't as good, but at least it didn't annoy me anymore.

I have the exact same problem with an RCA television. I never found away around it and just put up with it. I've had numerous problems with my JVC player (NEVER AGAIN JVC) so I always just assumed it was the player and not the tv. Now this thread leads me to believe it's an RCA tv issue. My tv is a good 10+ years old so I hope this problem has been fixed in newer RCA products.

I had an RCA TV hooked up to a first generation RCA DVD layer and this problem drove me nuts. I hated to watch most of my DVDs cause of this annoying little problem.

Even changing the hookups did nothing to help it so as soon as I could afford it I dumper all my stuff and bought all new Sony stuff. ( Wega and 5 DVD changer )

I will never again own or recommend anything RCA!

Yep, it's the TV! I tried various hook ups and same thing happened.... So I decided to take my DVD player to my friends house, and I hooked it up on his 27 inch RCA which is about 7 years old, and it did the same thing, I then hooked it up to his Sony, and everything worked perfect! Ah well, I'm getting a new 27 inch in Dec, and it sure as hell won't be a RCA!

There's a problem with some of the older RCA TVs not working well with DVD.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do. You might try doing a search in the Hardware forum to see if anyone's reported any success with complaining to RCA about this.

This is a hardware question, so moving.

It's the TV, this is a known problem on some RCA and GE models.
