Question About DVD/VCR combo
My mother-in-law is looking into getting my sister-in-law a DVD player for Christmas. However she just found out that my S-I-L's VCR just broke. Is there any big downside (for a casual movie watcher) to a DVD-VCR combo such as the Samsung DVD/VCR Combo DVD-V2000 ? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Chris

I own two combo players: a Panasonic and a Go Video. I think combo players are great because they take up less space and work just as well as separates. People tend to bad mouth them for a few reasons, but I've had no problems. Yes, I suppose they can break, but so can separate players.

Its probably cheaper to buy them seperately...plus if they are seperate, if one breaks all you would have to replace is the one that broke...I think the idea of the TV/DVD or VCR combo is much worse though.

The Samsung DVD-V2000 got horrible reviews on Amazon. I also think it is cheaper to buy a nice VCR ($70-80) and a nice DVD player ($120-130) than a nice combo player.

I would also stay away from the Samsung. Panasonic makes a nice combo that has a progressive DVD player. I agree with the last two posters about buying them separate. But in my case the dvd/vcr combo makes sense because of limited space in my entertainment centers. I highly recommend the Panasonic PV-D4752.
