Dumb Question - Changing Region Code on JVC XV-S502SL

Dumb question time. I've sent an e-mail to the e-tailer requesting this information, but I'd like a quicker answer.

I recently bought a JVC XV-S502SL (silver version of the S500) from HkFlix.Com and have just received my first non-region 1, PAL dvd (Region 2 "All That Jazz"). But I'm getting a region code error. I believe the region has to be manually changed but I don't know how. If there was something included that said how, I didn't find it, or maybe it was thrown away by someone who doesn't want to admit it.

Someone must have one of these players from HkFlix - how's it done?

Thanks!

Big T: I think I already emailed you, but here's the official instructions:

1. Turn on the player with the remote.
2. Turn the player off using the remote (The player will now be in "standby mode"
3. Press the number for the desired region on the remote control
4. press "ENTER" on the remote
5. The player will turn on, show old region, switch to new region automatically and power off. After 1 second, the player will turn on again by itself. The new region has been set.

If you push "0" and "Enter" the player will go into all-region mode and won't be region-selective.

If you have any additional questions, please email me directly.

syphon00: The player is region free if it has been modified to be so, as mine from HkFlix has been. One off the shelf from Best Buy isn't. In any case, this player does play PAL - look in your manual, page 4 - (and is one of the best in doing so), but in unmodified form, only Region 1 PAL discs. Don't know if there are any of those.

so does this mean if you set it to 0 you can't switch it back to another region? Does this also work for the 600 series? I just recieved my 600 series and would like to know what it is set at from you guys at HKflix.com.

If you switch it to region 0, what he means if you don't have to select a region everytime. Region 0 means it will play all regions, though I have heard of a few and by few, I mean not many at all) errors while in this mode with some disc, which would just mean switch it to that region and then switch it back to 0 later.

Check VCDHelp in the DVD Hack section, some players are remote hackable out of the box. Be careful though, not all can handle the PAL->NTSC though. Deawoo, Apex and Sampo and 2 JVCs are known to be remote hackable and do PAL->NTSC with the JVC being the best, since it uses the same chip has the Malata.
