Pro Logic II does a much better job of upmixing 2.0 tracks to 5.1.
All DPL II receivers I know are also Dolby Digital and DTS capable, so they would be a big improvement over any old Pro Logic receiver.
What are the brands and models of the receivers?

Pro Logic II is a simulated 5.1 multichannel sound, it is not a genuine digital discrete soundfield like: Dolby Digital, and DTS.

mastercdpe, as mentioned earlier, it is an "enhanced 5.1" though not discrete. It blows away traditional "Prologic" and is also terrific for playing music. It really creates added depth and dimension to 2.0 recordings. Give it a try as it will not disappoint.

The original Prologic is atleast 10 years old. It is not competitive to any DD or DTS receiver. Period. I bought an old receiver from a buddy a few years ago and had to replace it almost immediately. If you need a cheap receiver step up to the $200 range and get something that will give me 5.1 instead of just sending essentially the same signal to all 5 channels. HUGE DIFFERENCE.
