TIVO setup help please
I just got a Series 2 TIVO but their setup instructions don't seem to apply to my set up and I can't figure out how to connect it to work. Maybe someone else has a similar set up and can help me. Here's the info.
This is my current setup
JVC HRS4600u
s-video in goes to s vid out in DVD (through SIMA CC)
s-vid out goes to tv
a/v in goes to vid out in dvd
a/v out goes to tv
antenna in goes to cable line
vhf tv out goes to tv
Cable box: General Insttrument digital
cable - cable line
rf out - antenna in vcr
a/v out - empty
a/v in SPDIF (no idea what that means) - empty
dvd - toshiba sd6109c
tape out - video sender (X-10)
tv in - tv
video 1 out - vcr in
s-vid out - s-vid in VCR
video 1 in - empty
video 2 in - CD Player
It was originally connected in this order to make it that I can watch dvds in other rooms in the house because the video sender is attached to the dvd. I don't remember what didn't work when I reversed the order of the DVD and VCR , but something wouldn't work right so I'd rather not connect them differently if I don't have to. I think it was that if I connect the dvd to the vcr it won't let me watch them because of macromedia and I couldn't find any other way to connect both to the tv that worked that I could watch both dvds and watch things from my vcr.
Does anyone know how i'd connect a TIVO to this without disrupting it too much?
Thanks,
dg7

Three questions:
Is your VCR connected to your TV three different ways? (S-Video, A/V, coax)
How important is saving TiVo shows to your VCR?
What is the "TV in" connector on your DVD player?

Yes, all 3 go to the TV.
I'd like to be able to do that.
I assume it's because the DVD is also a Receiver, and so that allows me to play the TV sound over the speakers.
Thanks!

It sounds like you have some redundant connections. Your VCR should only need one video connection to your TV. (S-Video is the highest quality among the 3)
Here we go:
1. Connect the A/V out of your cable box (it sounds like your cable box lacks S-Video output, don't worry so does mine) into the A/V inputs on the TiVo.
2. Use the TiVo's IR blaster to control the Digital Cable Box.
3. Your DVD and VCR should only be connected once. Remove the A/V connection.
4. Connect the A/V output of the TiVo to the A/V input on the VCR.
That should work.

I'm sorry, that is too funny.
Macrovision is what you are talking about.
Macromedia makes Flash and other software.

I can't belive I wrote macromedia rather than macrovision. LOL. Uggh.
When I connect it that way I can see the TIVO if I switch thte control in the VCR to say the rear aux is video rather than s-video, but now I can't watch my dvds. I hear the sound from the dvd, but can't find the picture. It used to be the L-1 channel on my vcr, but that's where tivo is now. LOL

I reconnected the dvd to the vcr where I had disconnected it, and pulled the tivo wires around to the front of the VCR and connected them to the front inputs. Now the DVD is still there as L-1 and tivo is F-1 channel. I can now see tivo or dvd or cable by switching the channel on my vcr. I think this will work. (I only use the front plugs for copying from my camcorder so I can easily unplug tivo to do that. It seems to be working even if the setup is a bit odd.
Thanks a lot.
