"movie" filter on JVC S500

Somebody on the Nerd-Out forums said the "movie" filter on the region-free JVC S500 player stands in for the "still" filter that the Malata players have, and does the same thing. Can anybody confirm this?

Yes, it does. After reading the Nerd-Out threads, I tried it out on several PAL discs (I had been using "auto"). Took the shimmer completely out of the picture (I A-B'd the segment with auto/movie)! I never had tried this because I thought it only applied to progressive-scan (which I'm not using). It does make a big difference! I'm very pleased. I suppose, though, that the odd disc here and there won't be affected (due to improper flagging?), but all of the ones I tried were improved greatly, shimmer-wise.

Thanks good news, then. Sounds like the JVC is good choice for playing Pal movies.
