dvd-r & philips 710 compatible ?

i want to by a pioneer 104 -r/w but i dont know if i can read -r/w
with a philips 710
any body have this configuration

My first DVD player was a Phillps Magnavox 611-AT which was a predecessor to the 710 and it was a waste of money. It would be a major miracle if the player didn't freeze up during playback.
I got a Toshiba 5-Disc changer (2805 model, if I recall) and it's the greatest. I believe it plays DVD-R's and costs under $200. Go to the Toshiba site and you'll find a list of all DVD-R compatible players.
