Setting the Delay is DA BOMB

After a couple recent threads about delay settings I decided to double check mine and realized they were factory default 0. I changed it to 25ms and it's like a new system. My room is narrow so the rears are only 12' from the fronts and directly behind my head. I can't believe something so minor and mentioned so infrequently could make such a huge difference.

I know what you mean... that's why they started adding the feature to good stereos.

Placement is important!

Hm, I'll check my delay settings tonight if I have time. It sounds like it makes a big difference..

Not necessarily a big difference - if your speakers are placed correctly, it will make it worse to fiddle. Default settings are there for a reason.

but if you can't set your speakers up right, due to constraints of the room or furniture, it can make a big difference.

While I agree that sometimes fiddling can make things worse, this is not generally one of those cases. There is no "correct" distance from the speakers to the listening spot. Setting the delay is the only way to create the proper effect---unless the default just happens to match the distance in your setup.
