Component cables standard?

When hooking a DVD player up through component inputs, will a standard RCA plug connector work (as long as I manually line each input up with each output)? I assume component cables are standard, the same ones that can also be used to hook up video and audio was well, if needed.

Component cables are 75-ohm. Only your video cable would also be 75-ohm. I recommend getting three Radio Shack gold 75-ohm cables or something better if you have a high-end system.

Thanks, that was a fast response!! This is actually for the TV and DVD player that the entire family uses, I have a seperate (higher end) System in the basement. I have a set of standard RCA cables, you know the red, white and red cables, and I wanted to use those to hook up the DVD player to a new 27" TV we just got. All 3 colors look the same, but your saying only the video (yellow) is 75-OHM? Will these cables work for component, - it's for my wife and kids and they aren't exactly picky when it comes to this stuff!

You are talking component, like Y-Pb-Pr, right?

And yes, only the yellow video cable is, or should be (if it's not too cheap) 75-ohm. The audio cables are not.

Yes, that's the one! I'll make a trip to the store than and pick up the proper cables. Thanks for the assistance.

Here's what you should look for as they'll have no clue if you ask for 75-ohm video or component cables...

The RS part numbers are 1518, 1519, or 1520 depending on length. They come as single wires so you have to get three of them. They're just labeled as video wires, don't have 75-ohm on them. Price is about $5 - $10 each depending on length.
