yo, ive had my wega for a little over a year and its a sweet tv for regular cable, dvds and even vhs. A little background info, it is a 27" wega, not sure which model number, its the one with the speakers on the bottom, not the side. Anyways my question is, the 16x9 anamorphic squeeze mode feature. when i watch animorphically enhanced dvds in that mode, it sqeezes a little too much, and i want too fix that.

I know how to access the service mode, i have a great site that has all that information, only one thing i didnt understand though.
It said something to the sort of when u fix it too your liking, then your regular telivsion channels wont look as good, then u will have to change it back to the original settings and vice versa

Just wondering if anyone has done this before and what they think or some advice.

ps. dont tell me not to play around wit it, cuz everyone says that, i know what im doing, sorta, haha, and dont tell me to buy a calibration disc or borrow one.

I, too, have the a Sony Wega 27" (speakers on sides) and have started to use the 16:9 squeeze for my "Widescreen Enhanced" DVD's. From what I understand, you also have to set your DVD player to output to 16:9 or else your picture will look stretched. Once you've set the DVD player to 16:9 and then enable the 16:9 feature on the Wega, the image should be properly shaped.

I have the 27" Wega too with speakers on bottom.

When i put my dvd player in 16x9 mode and the wega in 16x9 mode, I still have to zoom out a little bit on the dvd player to see the entire picture. Is that normal?

spy: the image is properly shaped but screen is a little smaller than what it should be as opposed to regular widescreen discs, about 2 inches anyways.

are you sure your player's video output mode is set to 16:9? If the aspect ratio is correct but the picture is "smaller" that would mean that you have some sort of bars on all 4 sides. Is that what you are seeing? Perhaps you are confused on aspect ratios - not all widescreen discs have the same width/height ratio. The most common ones are 1.85:1 (small bars) and 2.35:1 (larger bars)

also, what are you doing in the service menu? there is very little if any changes you can make there without using a calibration disc. if you are just setting values to what you read on some website, you're probably making the picture worse.

what dvd player are you using? what is your overscan set to (if you have measured/set it)?

I'm using the Toshiba SD-3750.

I have no idea about the overscan or how to set it. Anyone know how?

you need to use AVIA or VE to see how much your TV is overscanning, then go into the service menu and adjust the height, width, and center to make it even on all sides. about 2-4% is where it should be, but is usually > 5% from the factory

Am i losing any quality in the anamorphic picture when I zoom out to fit the whole screen? If not, then Im not in any hurry to mess with the tv.

technically yes, but it's probably not perceptible. If you're happy with the way it is, then don't worry about it
