How do I switch back and forth between DD and DPL?

I just got my digital receiver today, and I am trying to compare dd to dpl back to back. On some DVDs, like Gladiator, I can select Dolby 2.0, Dolby 5.1 etc. But others, there is no option. I was trying to do it with Dragon Heart, but it will only play the 5.1. Is there a receiver setting that will allow me to play dpl? I have the Yamaha htr-5540. Thanks.

Why exactly are you comparing DD to DLP? DLP doesn't even compare to DD and if you have DD receiver, you are going to want to use DD when ever you have the chance.

To answer your question though, just switch it on the receiver, it will be mixed to what ever is selected on the receiver. So, if you force it to DPL, it will play it in DPL.

Thanks. I'm switching back and forth to show my parents the huge difference. Don't worry, I know how much better dd is.

Most dvd players have an audio button on the remote that will switch it while it plays. You might have to step through other audio options (like other languages) though.

Connect 6 cables for the 5.1 channels and 2 cables for the 2 channels. Use cheaper cables for the 2.0.
