Malfunctining Panasonic DVD Player --- Help?!?!?

One of my friends has a Panasonic DVD player that is about a year old, and it has stopped playing DVDs. It will still play audio CDs, but when a movie DVD is inserted, an error message that reads "This disc does not work, please insert another". It is the player, not the DVDs that is the problem -- she tested it with DVDs that work in their other player, and literally none of them would work. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so, how did they fix it? I'm not sure of the model number of the player, but I will try to find out Thanks in advance for your help!

Get that model #. There was a recall on several early Panasonic models, and if this is one of them your friend might have a free repair coming.

The model # is DVD-A120U. The exact message displayed is as follows: "This type of disc can not be played. Please insert another disc." Does this sound familiar to anyone?

No it doesnt, but there have been 3-4 panny models that have been recalled. I am assuming it is happening with more than one disc? And that it is happening with all dvds put in the player.

Yep, you're right -- it displays that message on every DVD. I thought that maybe the laser dirty suggested a good cleaning (figured it couldn't hurt). If that doesn't do it, it's going back to the store (she has the Best Buy extended warrenty, so it's their problem at that point).
