What is "anamorphic squeeze"...

What is anamorphic squeeze and do any non-WEGA T.V.s have this option? Also, am I able to achieve this on a computer monitor or does it happen automatcially?

Anamorphic squeeze is when you send the 16x9 video signal on your DVD to your 4x3 tv. Normally, the player would downcovert this image by throwing away every fourth line of resolution or something, but when you squeeze, the tv actually squeezes all that resolution into the proper aspect ratio so you have a clearer picture. Am I clear? As mud?
