Sony 700 vs. Pany R56 vs. Wait???
OK, in an earlier thread, I was trying to find out if I should upgrade and finally I decided it is worth it to do so. I have read on audioreview about people owning the SOny I have and upgrading to the 700 and noticing a large difference. Also the R56 has some good reviews too. I was wondering on people's advice on these or maybe waiting to the new releases in the next couple months from these two companies? Does anyone know what are going to be the differences on the new releases or where I can find out about them? Is the DVD A or SACD going to be a big thing that I should make sure I have right now. Thanks so much and I am sorry for bothering the threads so much lately but I want to get it right this time and make sure I don't have to upgrade again in a year.

For the money, the Pansonic is probably the best player, especially if you are using it for prog scan, the chip it houses in there (based off of faroudja technology) is the best close to that price range. Panasonic has done a great job supporting all the big formats and handling CD-R|RW and DVD-R|RW. Personally, I don't think it can be beat for it price tag, nothing can touch it.
As for DVD-A and SACD, I see if one is going to take the whole cake, it is going to be SACD. They have Sony and Philips behind them, which the biggest part is Sony owns a lot of artists so they will have a much easier chance of pumping out albums since they don't really have to convince anyone to sign on board. Apex (to bad apex is crap) did release a $350 DVD player that does DVD-A and SACD and it also prog scan, but HT Mag said basiclly you get what you pay for, that the quality was nothing to brag about. Pioneer just released a DVD player that is the DVD player to end all DVD players for around $1000. It carries the Elite name, so it is quality. It also houses DVD-A and SACD under the hood of this killer unit. It is great DVD player and it worth so much more than its list price.

My Wega is not HDTV so I won't be using the Progressive scan just yet. I am just looking for a little improvement from my Sony's NS300 grainy feel. Are there any DVD players that play SACD that are below $300 right now?

I think Sony has a SACD/DVD for $300, Philips may also. Other wise you are going to be hard pressed to find anyone that isn't a part of Sony/Philips (Aiwa, marantz) that will even have SACD and for under $300.
