Can I use a Handspring Deluxe PDA as a touch screen remote?

Can I use a Handspring Deluxe PDA as a touch screen remote?

Someone said they had a program called "Remote COntrol" Commander

I would LOVE to make it JUST like the Philips Pronto TSU1000

Is this possible??

Thanks!

Click me.

Keep in mind, IR range (and angle) will be dependent on the IR on your PDA.

Looks sweet, but my Visor "Deluxe" is not listed there

Also, not sure of what Palm OS I have and what else I need,etc,etc

Can someone walk me through it?

I have the Visor Deluxe (8MB)

I got it from CompUSA in the "Handspring/Glenayre modem" combo pack

I want to set up JUST LIKE the Philips Pronto TSU1000

Cheers!

It's listed here, so you should be all set.

As far as finding out your OS...

* Go to your application launche
* Go to the menu
* Select "App," then "Info..."
* Click on the "Version" button, and find your OS in the program list

I'd think that you'd get decent support at Pacific Neotek's help page: http://www.pacificneotek.com/contact.htm

This page has decent screen shots as far as what you can expect. It won't look JUST LIKE a Pronto, so maybe you should just buy one of those.

Everythign I've read makes it sound like the range is way too short for me!

I personally use OmniRemote with my Visor Neo, and its range is somewhere between 10-15 feet from the receiving device IR window. I have also tried OmniRemote with the cheap Palm m100 from the Infiniti testdrive promotion, and that worked equally well too.

Another problem on some PDA used as remotes is that the actual IR transmitter is on the bottom of the remote so you have to turn it upside down to use greatly reducing the funcitionality.

I am still curious as to what results you may get though, keep us informed.

The range is much too short on most PDAs to make it worth the effort, but the new Sony T series palms have a very powerful IR port and work great as remotes. Hopefully more PDAs will sport powerful IR ports in the future.

darkside,

I've always been curious about the enhanced IR port found on certain Sony Clies. Do you know what the range for those are with regard to consumer electronics? There's no way for me to beam another PDA with my Visor Neo from 10-15 ft away, but I have no problems operating things like my TV, DVD player, stereo, etc. from that range.

I have a Visor Deluxe as well as a Pronto. I would try to pick up a Pronto it is the best money I have ever spent.
