Are 8mm camcorders old NEWS?
Here are my needs:
1) Store the videos on dvd
2) Ability to upload to the pc and internet
Can I do the 2 above with an 8mm camcorder? If not, what is required to do what I need?
Thanks!!

Number 1 is a function of the Computer/Burner.
And yes to number 2. If you have a digital camcorder. I suggest MiniDVD. You can upload the video to your computer, do whatever you want with it, and then upload it the net.
I use a Canon and firewire to my PC using StudioDV and then upload it. See examples at http://www.conecam.com/

Yes you can do both with an 8mm camcorder.
You will need a video capture card and a dvd or cd-rom burner in addition to the camcorder.
The Radeon All in wonder is a nice card with tons of features and not too shabby 3d acceleration. Not quite a geforce but not far behind.
For a burner you can get a cd-r or dvd-r depending on what format you want to store disks in. Most dvd players support cd-r disks but they do not hold as much data as a dvd-r.
8mm will save alot of money over one of the newer digital cameras and resolution is just as good.
