First DVD Player - Help
Yes, yes. You've heard it all before, How do I do this, How do I do that, - I know!. So before we get off on the wrong foot I'd like to thank You for any help you can give.
I'm looking into buying my first DVD player, I'm 16 and have been saving up for quite a few months now from my weekend job, therfore I don't want to blow any money.
I've got £250 (preferably less - I do want some DVD's too ya know?) and like to research all the equipment I'm going to buy - Which I did with my custom built pc - However, reasearching the parts for my pc was easy as I at least knew what I was doing, I aint going to even bother to pretend that I know Jack all [edit since when has *5h1t*- been 5 letters?] 'cus I don't
After doing some preliminary research, I like the look of the Kiiro 838d - from the makers of Yelo 800DVD Click 'ere ya ugly mugs =) (this is open to suggestion but the price/performance ratio seemed quite good)
However If I was just after a DVD player then I would buy this and be happy however, I would like to add some sarround sound 5.1 speakers at a later stage - this is the bit that is confusing me - With the DVD player I have specified, Is it just a case of buying some creative inspire 5.1' speakers and hooking the 2 together, Or do I need something else,
If I do please explain what it is and how much it's going to set me back :*(
Thanks Jason.

The DVD player looks fine (though I have NO idea how much L250 is), but if you're doing to want digital surround sound you'll need a recevier to run your DVD player into and your speakers out from. And you'll DEFINTELY want this, though it's fine to add it later on.

Do recievers come standard with a set of 5.1' speakers or are they seperates, further more If I was to get 5.1 surround sound, Would I be able to use it whilst not watching a DVD ala standard TV w/ surround sound?.
Not sure what you mean by L250 - £150 is about US$214.846
- But the cheapest DVD player you can buy in Uk is £100 - US$146 whilst the cheapest Sony DVD player is £170/US$243
Thanks Jason

Receiver preforms a number of functions including:
1. Amp - Powering your speakers so you can get any sound at all.
2. Preamp - Switching between different audio inputs and adjusting sound levels.
3. Tuner - Radio tuning
4. Video Switching - Switching between different video inputs.
5. DD/DTS Decoding - Decoding different audio formats.

The DVD player I was looking at had both 5.1 and dts decoders and 5.1 outputs- I ment this "box"
If you need a reciever then how do the cheap DVD player + 5.1 surround sound systems work, as all they seem to have are the DVD player + a set of speakers,
Is there anyway of just hooking up a set of 5.1's and a dvd player, if not how much are recievers?

According to your link, your player has a built in AC-3 decoder. This means, you can enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 sound with the right speakers, without receiver.
But I would recommend you to buy speakers with external receivers tough (ie. Creative Inspire 5700), as external receiver have better quality.
