Brown bars?
I have a 32" Sony VVega, and an RCA 5220 DVD player hooked up through S-Video. I notice that when watching letterboxed movies in 16:9 mode, that during bright scenes, the black bars are nice and black and blend in nicely with the remainder of the screen. However, when the scene is dark, the black bars are very bright and almost brown looking. In 16:9 mode, they really stick out since the unused portion of the screen is nice and black.
Can this be even fixed at all, or do I have to live with it until I can afford a true 16:9 tv?

I had the same problem with my 20" Wega. Rather than being black in darker scenes they looked reddish or brown. I never did solve the problem but I've been told that it is a grayscale problem. I ended up having to buy a new TV anyhow so for me it was a moot point. Good luck
