Probem With Panasonic DVD-RV31...Help!

Hi all- having trouble with my DVD player. Keeps locking up in the middle of movies. Used a lens cleaning CD on the unit to no avail; when it freezes it wont open, close, nothing- has to be physically unplugged and tinkered with to get it back running again. Any techs out there have some insight for me? Anyone have a referral number I can call? This unit has a build date of February 2001 and Im MOST disappointed. I have a feeling that taking it in for servicing with me paying the cost would be as much as replacing the unit so Id rather try my hand at fixing myself first. Thanks!

Yup, thats exactly what I have here Pitman.......and I aint happy about it. They wanted to get a jump on the MP3 aspect of the market and rushed these out into the sores is my guess; regardless of their reason, if we're both having an identical problem that causes us to have to bang on the top of our players, they did one LOUSY job of bringing in return customers- and my entire stereo system is Panasonic/ Technics, both my TVs, 3 VCRs, even my vacuum cleaner is a Panasonic- because I liked the fact they delivered a quality product. I wont be buying Panasonic again either, and coming from me thats saying alot......Im 42 and the first receiver I ever owned was a Panasonic at the age of 16.
