I would appreciate any help at all anyone here could give me. My dvd player is acting up. And the thing is this, it's the second one in 2 years which I know is not right. What it's doing is freezing on certain scenes on certain dvds. Especially after you pause it. And the only way to get the player going at all after that is to keep pressing the "drawer open" button which makes whole thing shut down. This has been happening over and over the past week. It's only 8 months old and is a JVC and cost me over $300. I do have an extended warranty and Circuit City tells me it might just need to be cleaned, but like I said I've been through this before and the cleaning didn't do it and Circuit CIty had to replace the last one with this one.

I also noticed that the top of the dvd player gets very hot. I thought maybe I could reach out to all of you "experts" who might see this as something simple that perhaps I'm doing wrong. For example, can a dvd player be kept in an entertainment center or does it have to be in the open air? My husband thought that's why it's so hot, that maybe it is overheating without enough ventilation. This seems crazy to me because they build these entertainment centers for this stuff and besides it's not completely closed in. The front and back have ventilation.

Like I said, any input I get would be greatly appreciated!

I am not sure a DVD player alone will generate enough of its own heat to cause problems. If it is on top of a receiver then there might be a problem.

You might want to try those discs on other players and see if that might be the problem. Otherwise if they replaced the last one perhaps they will do it again and you could try another brand.

Check to make sure your dvd's are clean,(especially if you're renting) if they're not it can cause them to act wierd. I've run into this before.

I would also do a search on the net for the make and model of your player...Maybe it just has issues.
